Microsoft Windows Users PDF Print E-mail

I can see that Macs are well set up for digital editing—iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD all sound wonderful. But our school has all PCs. Can we do these things too?

Yes. It is true that many of the resource links on our site are to Apple information. We can’t deny it— we are big Mac fans. Apple pioneered consumer digital video and is still very much on the leading edge. That said, there are many PC programs that do the same things as their Apple counterparts. Notably, iMovie II and MovieMaker II (found in Windows XP and Longhorn) are very similar in what they can do and how easily they can do it. The good people at Atomic Learning don’t want Windows users to feel at a disadvantage in the video department, so they include free tutorials to both iMovie II and MovieMaker II on their site.

Portability PDF Print E-mail

Can a Lightsmith platform be folded up and carried easily?

Yes. A Lightsmith can be folded with its camcorder and cables still attached, and carried by its handle from one location to another. This minimizes set-up time, and also allows students to easily transport a Lightsmith for small-group projects in a media center or work area.

Media Carts PDF Print E-mail

My school uses media carts. Does a Lightsmith integrate well with this kind of system?

Yes. Many of our customers permanently attach their Lightsmiths to the top of an AV cart or podium. Being able to easily remove and store the camera prevents the hassle of having to use a secure storage area for the entire cart when not in use. Carts are also ideal for use with a wireless transmitter, allowing a Lightsmith to be operated from anywhere within 300 feet of the display device.

Image quality on a TV PDF Print E-mail

I’ll be using a TV instead of a projector. Will the picture be as sharp?

Yes. Camcorder technology has been developed primarily for use with TVs, so the image quality on a TV is excellent. Digital camcorders capture 30 frames per second, so the image quality is unsurpassed even by much more expensive video presenters which typically have slower capture rates.
